I Won! I Won!

Well well well. Guess who has been given a Stylish Blogger Award? Me!! That's who!

It's all so sudden. Where to begin...well first I need to thank the awesome Umseti for giving me this award. She has a great blog as well (that's also recently been the recipient of this very stylish award) called Stupid America. Thanks Umseti *waves* And of course I must thank all of my awesome followers as well, who help me stay so stylish *winks*

Now apparently there are some rules that come with winning this prestigious award. Rule#1 is to acknowledge the blogger that gave me the award and link their blog (may I direct you all back to the previous paragraph).

Rule#2 is that I must list 7 things you all may not know about me. Now, I don't know how interesting these 7 things are going to be to you all, but here goes:

Seven Things That You May Not Know About Me

1. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Tulane University that I’m doing absolutely NOTHING with. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it any less though. I thoroughly enjoyed my college years (maybe a little too much, whoops!) and I love love love history so I think it was time and money well spent. Part of me wishes that I appreciated it even more though when I was there. I didn’t seem to realize until the very end though what a precious gift a college education was and think I could have done so much more with my time there.

2. Yes I did survive Hurricane Katrina. It was my senior year in college actually. I was incredibly lucky though and the weekend it hit I was out of town visiting my parents. However, my poor little kitty was home all by herself and I feared the worst for her. Thankfully a window broke during the storm and she was able to escape to freedom where she could eat all the cockroaches and mice she could get her paws on. No one could return to the city for a full month so she hung around my apartment that whole time missing me terribly and lost half her body weight. Then my awesome landlady (who I had informed of my predicament) got back to the city and rescued her for me. We were reunited at last (and it DID feel so good!). Afterwards she was deemed the nickname of “Miracle Cat” and we’ve been together ever since.

3. Although I lived in Louisiana, home to all that great seafood, I am allergic to shellfish. Whomp whomp. I attended more crawfish boils than I can count but I never touched the stuff. Ah well, looked kind of gross anyway.

4. I have seen 8 out of the 10 nominated movies this year for a Best Picture Oscar. I’m a big movie buff (as well as book buff, obviously) but I just realized this the other day after I got home from seeing The King’s Speech (which was great by the way). The only two on my list that I haven’t seen are 127 Hours, which I don’t even know where it’s playing in my neighborhood, and Winter’s Bone, which I’m trying to get on Netflix before the big day but there’s a long wait.

5. I’ve recently gotten into cooking. I never really used to cook much at all (since it’s just me all by my lonesome and what fun is that?) but lately I just decided to give it a go and discovered that I’m actually a pretty good cook and it IS fun! Once a week I make myself a brand new meal that I’ve never had before and make sure to save some leftovers for lunch the next day. It’s become something I really look forward to each week.

6. I used to be very active back in high school (and before). I played lacrosse, soccer and volleyball and also danced for over 10 years. Dancing was my main passion and I struggle now to remember why I gave it up. Now the only time I get to dance is when I go to a bar (woohoo girls’ night out!) or playing on my Wii.

7. Finally, I recently ended a 16-year friendship with a guy who I used to think of as my brother because I could no longer sit by and listen to his anti-woman diatribe. That and he also had recently started a very emotionally abusive relationship with another woman and was forcing me to take part in it by being a silent witness to the whole thing. I would tell him over and over that I was not okay with his actions but he refused to listen or take the necessary steps to change and I got tired of making excuses for him. These were things I could not tolerate. It was a very emotional decision for me but in the end I know I did the right thing.

Rule#3 is that I also have to give out this Stylish Blogger Award to 15 other bloggers who are just starting out. Hmmm, this causes a perplexing problem seeing as I do not know 15 other bloggers who are just starting out. But I will give out the award to the ones I DO know (sorry but they're all basically book blogs, it's what I read!). And they are, in no particular order:
So I guess that's it. Yay me :)

i love your blog. it has simple and clean lines and everything that's important is right in front of you. i feel mine is like i am inside. cluttered, with lots of knick-knacks and no cohesion.

Thanks Jenny! But I think it's the style on the inside that counts (aw, look at me getting all philosophical). And I know your blog is in a transition phase but I still love it! And it's more about giving new blogs a shout-out and some recognition anyway I think. At least, that's what I think.

And OMG Sidne, there's another one! Going to update blog now...

I'm honoured, tickled pink! (Even pinker than my google photo transmits, which is saying something...) Thank you very much, and I look forward to many happy hours mutual blog-reading...

May I just say that I was on the edge of my seat for that entire paragraph, until I found out that you and your kitty were reunited?!?! I am so glad you were! I am thinking that now you owe us a picture of said kitty...
Sorry to hear about your hard decision to end a friendship. It can be so difficult to realize that sometimes there is nothing left for you to do but move on. Anyway, best of luck with your very stylish blog! Glad I happened upon it!
