I Am Very Stylish

Wow, well this last month, actually these last two months, have been so incredibly busy for me I have fallen extremely behind in my blogging duties. As a result I haven’t been that great of a blogging buddy to some of my friends, and as such I apologize (bad blogger! bad!). I will try to make up for that now by finally accepting my Stylish Blogger Award that I was so graciously given to me by not 1 but 3 of my fellow bloggers! Yay me :)
So thank you very much Perri over at Lesser Apricots Jenny at Lit Endeavors and Karen over at Bibliophilic Blather. Love you all!

So since I won this prestigious award, I’m now supposed to tell you all 7 things you may not know about me. So here goes…

1. I know this is a literary blog, but I’m not a fan of Charles Dickens. I know, the horror! I just never liked him when I was forced to read his stuff in school. But I’m going to attempt to read him again later this year and try to remedy that.

2. I decided to start this blog over really getting incensed thinking about the double standards presented in the book The Odyssey. I wrote a post about it here.

3. I didn’t claim the feminist label until I was almost done with college. I thought that that would have to mean I hated men. How wrong and misinformed I was!

4. My grandmother, who is no longer alive, is a source of inspiration for me and though she would never have called herself a feminist I truly believe that is what she was.

5. I’m now in my late 20s but I still have no idea what I want to do with my life. If it could somehow involve books or writing that would be fantastic.

6. This should be obvious but I’m a proud supporter of Planned Parenthood. I know my blog isn’t always as feminist in tone because it’s more about books and whatnot but if you follow me on Twitter I post a lot more feminist-type links there.

7. My poor kitty, Misha, is a long-hair and has to get shaved once a year to keep her coat looking nice. I just got it done last week and she looks ridiculous right now. I’ll try to post a pic of her in all her glory later this week if I get a chance.

The last part of this award is I have to bestow it on 8 other wonderful bloggers. So, the awards go to:

So go visit their blogs, they’re really good :) And I promise I’m trying to get back up to speed with mine. Things have just been super crazy around here.

I'm Lovely!

UGH! I'm still sick! Is this even possible? I thought I was getting better on Friday but then yesterday I felt worse! Now today I'm completely out of cold medicine and I just don't understand how this sickness can be lasting this long. Blah!

Anyway, the one thing that does make it a little more bearable is that I received this beautiful award:

It's from my friend Kathmeista over at her great blog: [Insert Suitably Snappy Title...]. So I would say this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...but I still feel kind of yucky and feverish so...but if I wasn't sick then I'd totally say warm and fuzzy ;)

Now is the time to pass on this loveliness to eight other blogs. Who to choose?
1) What Red Read
2) The Conscientious Reader
3) What She Read...
4) Wall-to-Wall Books
5) Deborah Lawrenson
6) Books, Personally
7) Thoughts of a Book-Mad Girl
8) Lit in the Last Frontier

So visit those sites. It's an order (I get bossy when I'm sick). Let them know you came over from my awesome blog though so they know to thank yours truly for the 100s of new followers ;)

I Won! I Won!

Well well well. Guess who has been given a Stylish Blogger Award? Me!! That's who!

It's all so sudden. Where to begin...well first I need to thank the awesome Umseti for giving me this award. She has a great blog as well (that's also recently been the recipient of this very stylish award) called Stupid America. Thanks Umseti *waves* And of course I must thank all of my awesome followers as well, who help me stay so stylish *winks*

Now apparently there are some rules that come with winning this prestigious award. Rule#1 is to acknowledge the blogger that gave me the award and link their blog (may I direct you all back to the previous paragraph).

Rule#2 is that I must list 7 things you all may not know about me. Now, I don't know how interesting these 7 things are going to be to you all, but here goes:

Seven Things That You May Not Know About Me

1. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Tulane University that I’m doing absolutely NOTHING with. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it any less though. I thoroughly enjoyed my college years (maybe a little too much, whoops!) and I love love love history so I think it was time and money well spent. Part of me wishes that I appreciated it even more though when I was there. I didn’t seem to realize until the very end though what a precious gift a college education was and think I could have done so much more with my time there.

2. Yes I did survive Hurricane Katrina. It was my senior year in college actually. I was incredibly lucky though and the weekend it hit I was out of town visiting my parents. However, my poor little kitty was home all by herself and I feared the worst for her. Thankfully a window broke during the storm and she was able to escape to freedom where she could eat all the cockroaches and mice she could get her paws on. No one could return to the city for a full month so she hung around my apartment that whole time missing me terribly and lost half her body weight. Then my awesome landlady (who I had informed of my predicament) got back to the city and rescued her for me. We were reunited at last (and it DID feel so good!). Afterwards she was deemed the nickname of “Miracle Cat” and we’ve been together ever since.

3. Although I lived in Louisiana, home to all that great seafood, I am allergic to shellfish. Whomp whomp. I attended more crawfish boils than I can count but I never touched the stuff. Ah well, looked kind of gross anyway.

4. I have seen 8 out of the 10 nominated movies this year for a Best Picture Oscar. I’m a big movie buff (as well as book buff, obviously) but I just realized this the other day after I got home from seeing The King’s Speech (which was great by the way). The only two on my list that I haven’t seen are 127 Hours, which I don’t even know where it’s playing in my neighborhood, and Winter’s Bone, which I’m trying to get on Netflix before the big day but there’s a long wait.

5. I’ve recently gotten into cooking. I never really used to cook much at all (since it’s just me all by my lonesome and what fun is that?) but lately I just decided to give it a go and discovered that I’m actually a pretty good cook and it IS fun! Once a week I make myself a brand new meal that I’ve never had before and make sure to save some leftovers for lunch the next day. It’s become something I really look forward to each week.

6. I used to be very active back in high school (and before). I played lacrosse, soccer and volleyball and also danced for over 10 years. Dancing was my main passion and I struggle now to remember why I gave it up. Now the only time I get to dance is when I go to a bar (woohoo girls’ night out!) or playing on my Wii.

7. Finally, I recently ended a 16-year friendship with a guy who I used to think of as my brother because I could no longer sit by and listen to his anti-woman diatribe. That and he also had recently started a very emotionally abusive relationship with another woman and was forcing me to take part in it by being a silent witness to the whole thing. I would tell him over and over that I was not okay with his actions but he refused to listen or take the necessary steps to change and I got tired of making excuses for him. These were things I could not tolerate. It was a very emotional decision for me but in the end I know I did the right thing.

Rule#3 is that I also have to give out this Stylish Blogger Award to 15 other bloggers who are just starting out. Hmmm, this causes a perplexing problem seeing as I do not know 15 other bloggers who are just starting out. But I will give out the award to the ones I DO know (sorry but they're all basically book blogs, it's what I read!). And they are, in no particular order:
So I guess that's it. Yay me :)
